Pickens County Youth Board

What is the PCYB?

  • Membership is open to all rising 8th-12th graders in Pickens County.

  • The PCYB is a diverse group of community-oriented students in Pickens County who are concerned for the health and well-being of their community


  • Provide the community and schools with alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse awareness

  • To be a role model to the community and schools

  • Provide the community with drug-free activities

Time Commitment:


HS Senior YB members: Required to attend at least 75% of all scheduled events

Other YB members: Required to attend at least 60% of all scheduled events

  • Three (3) Meetings a month (mandatory) which includes:

    • Two (2-hour) Youth Board Meetings (first and third Mondays)

    • One (1-hour) Steppin’ It Up Coalition Meeting (second Monday)

  • Youth Board Leadership Training Camp-To be held in the Summer

    • Each year, ALL Selected PCYB members are EXPECTED to attend a leadership program. During this time, members are learning more about what it means to be on Youth Board, taking classes to further educate them about alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and their risk. This leadership program may also include guest speakers, team building activities such as low and high ropes course along with some recreational time (swimming, paddle boating) It is a great opportunity to grow as a member of the PCYB.

  • The EVA Project-To be held in the Fall​​

    • EVA stands for Elevating your Voices to Action. This 2-day training is where the previously trained Youth Board members lead small group sessions of middle school students. Adult supervision is present. The focus of the program is to provide opportunities for youth to: ​

      • Develop or enhance healthy lifestyles ​

      • Design and implement effective prevention programs

      • Expand the peer-to-peer network for alcohol and other drug prevention 

  • Other Opportunities 

    • To be a part of local SADD Clubs at individual school assisting onsite school advisor

    • Community Environmental Projects

    • Attend educational local, state or national conferences                                                                                                                                                                                   

  • Incentives:

    • Each Youth Board member is provided ample opportunity to acquire service hours that may be needed for other organizations

    • Seniors may qualify for a $2,000.00 cash scholarship that goes toward any human services degree

    • Meal/Snack at most meetings

    • Quality experience for future endeavors
